Steps in Court / Love Marriage

1. If both partners are of same Religion

In Law – Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists are considered to be of the same religion.

One spouse can be a Sikh, Second can be a Hindu.
One spouse can be a Hindu, Second can be a Jain.

One spouse can be a Buddhist, Second can be a Sikh.

Both Spouses are Hindu.

Both Spouses are Sikh.

Both Spouses are Buddhist.

Both Spouses are Jain.

Both Spouses are Muslim.

Both Spouses are Christian.

In all these cases, the marriage will first take place as per the religious ceremony of one of the partners. Eg. Saat Phere, Anand Karaj, Nikah, etc. Once the religious ceremony is performed, the marriage is successful.

In these cases, same-day marriage is possible.

After the religious ceremony, the marriage can be registered with the Registering Officer of the area. Registration / Non-Registration has no effect on the validity of marriage.

2. If both partners belong to different Religions

If one spouse is a Hindu, and second is a Christian. Such marriage cannot be performed by religious ceremony because the partners are of different religions.

For Same-Day marriage in such cases, one of the spouses must change their Religion.

Otherwise, a special procedure has to be followed for marriage in such cases.
